2024 If

Embrace the uncharted realms of "If", where the only limit is the extent of your curiosity.

Imagine being transported to a space that feels both strange and familiar—a dreamscape where reality and imagination intertwine. This year, we dare you to journey into the enigmatic terrain of the unknown at TEDxFargo 2024, where “If” beckons the curious, the daring, and the dreamers. In a departure from the conventional, we invite you to step beyond the boundaries of the expected and encourage you to embrace the ethereal, the in-between, and the uncharted.

TEDxFargo Edge

Going to the edge gives you experiences. Experiences give you ideas. Ideas change the world.

Why do some people thrive on the edge while it scares others?

At TEDxFargo EDGE, we explored this question as we challenged perceptions of the uncomfortable, the safe, the new, and the different and guided attendees to see ideas through other lenses.

TEDxFargo focuses on engaging attendees in a world-class experience by showcasing the best of our community. Everyone’s experiences and perceptions are unique but just as true as your own. TEDxFargo Edge invited attendees to embark on a journey to embrace their differences and meet each other at the edge to share their experiences and ideas.

Your Gut Microbiome: The Most Important Organ You’ve Never Heard Of | Erika Ebbel Angle

Dr. Erika Ebbel Angle discusses why the gut microbiome is the most important organ you’ve probably never heard of. The gut is the second brain, and gut health affects your overall health. This means that you are what you eat, but you are also the metabolites that live in your gut and produce the substances you need for emotional balance, energy level, and disease prevention. Poor lifestyle choices cause gut imbalances, which can lead to neurodegenerative diseases, autoimmune diseases, and even anxiety and depression. Angle talks about three critical molecules and how they work in the body to affect your overall wellness. She also shares some tips about what you can do to maintain a healthy gut microbiome through diet and lifestyle choices.

No Such Thing as Correct English | Kellam Barta

Most English speakers who notice differences in pronunciation, grammatical structure, or word choice believe that some of these variants are “correct” and others are not. Differences in spoken English (and other languages) often encode local or social identity, and ideas about correctness create groups of people who are “othered” because they “say it wrong.” Barta explains how African Americans, women, and young people can be marginalized based on their speech, though the pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary used are intricate, systematic, and communicative. There is nothing “incorrect” about them.
