TEDxFa

Forward

July 25, 2019
Fargo Civic Center
2,030 Attendees

Our tenth TEDxFargo event focused around the idea of forward. The emphasis was not just on the word “forward” but specifically the second half, ward. Ward can be defined as “the action or process of guarding.” We wanted to create homes for these ideas we’ve spent the last few years cultivating, and create secure spaces for them to grow and make the impact they were intended to.

TEDxFargo Forward was held on July 25, 2019. Over 25 speakers took the stage to share their ideas and experiences. Some topics covered were gaps in the education system, mental health, and the importance of finding your community. TEDxFargo 2019 was a sold-out event with over 2,000 people in the room.

Aneela Idnani

Overcoming Trichotillomania: The Power of Awareness

Aneela Idnani is a mental health advocate on a mission to raise BFRB awareness. BFRB stands for Body Focused Repetitive Behavior, a family of conditions that include compulsive hair pulling (trichotillomania), skin picking (dermatillomania) and nail biting (onychophagia). These are the most common mental health disorders you’ve never heard of, with approximately 1 in 20 Americans affected.

You can’t change what you don’t know is happening. This is particularly true for people with BFRBs, like Aneela, and is why she and her team created a smart bracelet, HabitAware Keen, to help build awareness of these trance-like behaviors. Awareness empowers YOU to consciously choose healthier coping strategies and change your life. A talk to share because mental health matters.
